Recent Advances in Energy and Protein Evaluation of Poultry and Pig Feeds
نویسنده
چکیده
The cost of feed is the most important cost in pig or poultry (meat, egg, etc.) production (#6070%); the energy component represents the greatest proportion (>80%) of that cost; while protein and minerals (phosphorus mainly) supplies in feed are much less expensive but crucial for performance of animals and levels of wastes and potential pollutions in the environment. Therefore, it is important to estimate precisely the nutritional value (energy, protein, phosphorus) of feeds, either for least-cost formulation purposes (i.e. ingredients) or for adapting feed supply to energy and nutrient requirements of animals (i.e. complete feeds). In addition, in the general context of increased prices of ingredients and increased demand of human food and industry usage (biofuels, etc.), new and alternative feed ingredients and also new technologies (enzymes, for instance) will be used. Such changes must be quantified precisely in terms of nutritional values in order to obtain a representative hierarchy between feeds. Accurate, easy-to-use, ethically acceptable and cheap methods for such evaluations should also be proposed. The objectives of this paper are then to present the most recent methods and concepts for estimating the energy and protein values in both pig and poultry feeds. Some gaps, uncertainties and perspectives on this topic will also be given.

Nutritional Quality of Quail Feeds Used in Urban and Peri-Urban Areas of Uganda: Chemical and Energy Composition
Quail production is steadily gaining importance in developing countries like Uganda, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas. However, inappropriate feeding practices such as using the same feed classes across different growth stagesor beyond the recommended growth stageshave been reported among quail farmers. This study evaluated the nutritional properties of quail diets used in urban and p...

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary fish oil replacement by poultry fat on growth performance and fillet quality, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Three diets were used in this experiment, containing different percentages of poultry fat (0% (D1), 50% (D2) and 100% (D3) replacement with fish oil. The fish were reared as three treatments; the fish fed D1 diet; the fish fed D2 diet; ...
متن کاملToxigenic Fungal Contamination for Assessment of Poultry Feeds: Mashed vs. Pellet
Background: Much attention has been paid to poultry feed processing and the contamination In Iran in order to improve the production and reduce the waste. No information is available on the fungal contamination and the strains found in processed (pellet) and non-processed (mash) poultry feeds. This study was designed to determine the hygienic condition and the risk of fungal contamination...

Background: Several health problems may be occurred due to consumption of mycotoxin-contaminated foods and feeds. The maize and oilseeds, as the main components of poultry feeds are susceptible to mould contamination and mycotoxin production. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of toxigenic Aspergillus spp. in poultry feeds from Ilaro, Nigeria. Methods: A total of 60 poultry fe...

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: The most important factor in adjusting poultry feed consumption is energy, which is correlated with feed cost. The net energy system is more accurate and useful for measuring the energy utilization of poultry. The presence of anti-nutritional compounds such as non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) and phytate compounds in some poultry feed items ...
